Toronto March Resales Beat 2006 Record

Toronto home buyers were anxious to be out in the unusually warm early-March sunshine as much as the nascent tulips were – sales were popping up all over the place, the Toronto Real Estate Board says.

While resales were up 70% over the first two weeks of March 2009, the comparison is with a very low base in last year’s downturn. But the fact that sales were up 16% over the previous record set for the first two weeks of March (in 2006) is telling.

There was a 34% increase in new listings, which will help stabilize the prices that soared 20% (to $440,153) in this winter’s seller’s market.
