Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario
is in the east of the city,
bordered by Lake Ontario in the
south, Victoria Park Avenue in
the west, Steeles Avenue to the
north and Rouge River to the
east. Buying a house in
Scarborough means that you are
buying a
Toronto home in one of the
most culturally diverse suburbs
of Toronto. More than half of
Scarborough’s inhabitants were
born outside of Canada.
Scarborough is one of the
greener parts of Toronto and has
many natural landmarks such as
Scarborough Bluffs and Rouge
River.
Scarborough boasts numerous
schools and post secondary
schools supported by many
religions. The University of
Toronto is also situated in the
area.
Transportation in and out of
Scarborough is easy. There are
many major provincial highways
within easy reach and the area
has the only elevated rapid
transit line – The Scarborough
RT. Lester Pearson International
Airport is close by.
If culture is what you are
seeking, then Scarborough has
the Scarborough Historical
Museum, Thomson Memorial Park
and the Olympia Leisure. There
is also easy transport into the
central business district of
Toronto for those who want to
work in a corporate world. Those
seeking work within Scarborough
should note that Toyota, Novopharm, Honda, and Aviva have
major offices or factories
within the area.
Scarborough is one of the
cheaper areas in which to buy
your home, yet it has a mixture
of different home styles. From
small wooden bungalows to
condominiums, family, seniors or
singles will find the home that
they want at a pocket friendly
price.
It is a charming area to live;
much loved by those that like
the outdoors. You can spend time
trekking or picnicking in the
Rouge River Valley or walking
alongside Lake Ontario. You
might even see deer or foxes if
you are lucky.
The area has a reputation of
having a high crime rate, but
this is more media reporting
than fact. Scarborough has less
violent incidents that most
parts of Toronto. The safest
part of Toronto is north
Scarborough from Victoria Park
Ave. to the Pickering border,
north of Highway 401.
Real estate is cheaper than the
rest of Toronto. A family 3
beds, 2 baths home can be found
for less than CAN$300,000
The first nine months of 2010
has seen an increase in real
estate sales so the market is
hopefully picking up once more.
However house prices are
remaining fairly stable so
perhaps now is the time to
consider buying a new home in
Scarborough and moving from your
old house.
